Wouter Jansen
Wouter Jansen (born April 27th 1984) is a Dutch GoldenEye & Perfect Dark speedrunner (as well as a runner on other games).
Wouter is a legendary figure of the-elite.net as well as one of the most decorated GoldenEye players ever, he was mostly active from 2000 to ~2006, but remained more or less around and did a few small comebacks throughout the years.
Controversial debuts in GoldenEye speedrunning (1999 -2000)
Wouter's debuts in GoldenEye speedrunning were unique, and luckily he is the only person who played in the early era (1999 - 2000) who tracked his own achivements with such precision, thanks to a very complete list of all his times that he kept track over the years called the "GoldenEye Process".
Wouter first had a complete timespage on February 26th 1999, by then he had already achieved his first World Record, Runway SA 0:25 (and maybe a Depot Agent 0:29). Wouter continued to play intensely throughout the year 1999 and 2000 in complete secret, achieving dozens of World Records and Untieds without anyone being aware of it but himself.
On September 26th 2000, Wouter would contact the community using GameFAQs, claiming he was holding 35 World Records including 18 Untieds and that he had shown a tape of many of his speedruns to Steven Zwartjes to prove them.
Later in early October Wouter woule reveal his timespage and all the world records he held, including a list of all his currently recorded times and a few tips for faster strategies on different levels (such as skippin the body armour on Jungle 00A).
Wouter was met with a lot of scepticism and extra scrutiny as no player ever joined the community with such a high level of play right away before or since him.
Managing to upload and send his videos online would be a challenge for weeks/months to come but he would eventually do it and be added on the-elite.net rankings on December 29th 2000, beginning in 2nd place just a handful of points behind then champion Sterling Neblett.
