This is a tutorial for Goldeneye 007. For an outline of the strategies used in this tutorial, see the main level page.

Walkthrough

Target Time - 0:48

Use Control Style 2.2.

Cut the cinemas since they are boring and unnecessary. Just like in all the Surface levels, start in right strafe, and get as close to the tree line as possible. Get into look down.

Switch to the mine. The line you want to take is similar to that of Surface 1 SA/00A strats'. Follow the tree line, and go parallel to the last wall before it breaks to the left. Then move ever so slightly to the left in your line.

After a while of strafing, you should see a building and a distinctive mound of snow. You want to use the mound to propel your mine throw far. It's hard to explain this in words, so watch the video. You need to go halfway into that triangular snow formation in front of the building, run up the mound, and throw the mine. Hold Z the whole while, get back into right strafe, and push A+B to detonate the mine after about 2 seconds after the throw.

The throw is the level. The hardest part is to play for hours, never hitting the throw, just believing that it will all work and the objective will complete. This is the key to getting this WR.

Anyways, if you did it correctly and luckily, the objective will complete. Now your nerves kick in. Keep in right strafe. You should see the helicopter and bunker coming up. You want to be on the right side of the door. Anyways, drop down, turn hard, open the door and switch weapons to hopefully warp the door and finish the level!

OHMSS Guide

Target Time - 0:49

Start: Usual treeline strafing, strafe in a straight line past the first concave tree section so that you arrive right at its rear edge, do a tiny left turn there, maybe 5°.

Long strafe line: If your angle adjustment after the concave tree section was ok, you'll run right over the peak of the snow hill when reaching the first orthogonal path. If so, do not touch your joystick for the next 20 or so seconds and relax in full lookdown. Do tiny adjustments if you're a bit off (slightly tip your joystick to the 11 or 1 o'clock position). After you passed the main road, you should run through the shadow of the shed to the right. On a perfect strafeline you'll see the shed on the bottom right of your screen (see Clemens' 48) but that's not a requirement for 49. The upcoming orthogonal path can give further cues on the quality of your strafeline.

Leaned Throw: Around 5 seconds before reaching the snow hill that serves as our launch pad, look up and adjust the details your line, but if you obeyed the above you should be fine already. For learning the throw, I suggest to watch Boss' SA 50 vid on how to line up a safe throw. For 49 you might want to yolo the throw more or otherwise you'll need pretty good strafing/warp. Hold Z after throwing, do a quick backoff (can lose a lot of time there) and detonate the mine right after climbing the next hill. If A didn't complete, go back and check where the mine exploded to learn how to adjust your angle and detonate timing. Error feedback is the bread and butter of improvement.

Ending: Don't know how to explain the last strafe line but it's pretty easy and you'll get it quick. Do a tight turn and nail dat insane warp.

With a safe throw, you'll probably complete a run in less than an hour with the above info. Good luck, have fun!
