This is a tutorial for Goldeneye 007. For an outline of the strategies used in this tutorial, see the main level page.

Overview

Train is a high-skill level due to tight corridors, numerous targeting and chasing guards who tend to cluster. It is generally considered amongst the toughest Goldeneye LTK levels, testing the full extent of your defensive play. Because the level gets so crowded, a good speedrun will require some luck with sporadic guard timings, and combat/death animations.

General Completion Notes

Guard Types

As detailed in the main level page, there are three main types of guards.

For LTK, the targeting guards are ready for you, will animate as soon as seeing you and obviously have 100% accuracy. This means you can be caught out even if you do a quick lean, and you must be careful opening doors. They also do not move, so cannot be manoeuvred easily into better positions. Finally, some have handedness advantage over you.

The chasing guards, particularly the ones who spawn, cause the issue of clustering. This means you can eliminate one, but their death animation may block your shot at the next. Guards can shoot through dying guards, but Bond cannot.

Escaping the Train

Most of the locks can be removed from outside the final car (containing Trev etc.), which can make the ending more relaxed.

The tables in the final car can be used as invisible walls to stop Trevelyan shooting you. Once you leave the Train, there is a large invisible wall, which allows you to see all 3 guards outside without them seeing you. Note that one of these guards will run to you when alerted.
