This is a tutorial for Goldeneye 007. For an outline of the strategies used in this tutorial, see the main level page.

Overview

Control is a high skill level/low luck level. It is generally considered amongst the most difficult Goldeneye LTK levels, largely due to the protect and post-protect sequence.

The level tests shooting skill and accuracy, posing several dangerous moments that require precision and decisiveness.

General Completion Notes

Protect Sequence

The key to this level is the protect sequence, during which 4 guards will continuously spawn. The non-hatted guards will target Natalya, and the black hat guards target Bond. Given Natalya's low health, it is imperative that the non-hatted guards do not get in position to shoot.

Conventionally, the protect is tackled from the Control room floor on all normal mode difficulties. However, for LTK, the protect is usually performed from the first floor balcony. All non-hatted guards originate from the top floor, so you can clearly see them running down the stairs.

The hatted guards target Bond and cause the most issue, since they are a distraction. Generally, players look side to side to limit the possibilities that they spawn to your side and therefore either come up or down the stairs, thus more aligned to the non-hatted guards.

Skill is paramount, but a slice of luck will give you a good combination and spacing of guards that makes this part easier.

Post Protect Sequence

The post-protect sequence is certainly a tricky part of the level, and perhaps the most nerve-racking single passage of play in LTK. Your success will depend on definite movement and a bit of spawn guard luck.

For safety it is best to wait for Natalya to complete her objectives before exiting, so you can do it quickly. Guards will eventually turn their attention to you, and since there are multiple it is hard to keep track of where they are.

As you enter the final room, there are 2 guards by the lift, 1 immediately to your right and Trevelyan on the far side. Removing the threat of these guards and closing the door quickly behind you will be helpful since spawn guards will eventually catch up to you. You just have to hope that you can do what is required before then.
